Social Ministry

Bear one another’s burdens.
— Galatians 6:2

At St. John’s, Social Ministry is a way of meeting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of one another, those in our community, and those in need, near or far.

Whether you are seeking the help and support of others, or you are able to offer your own gifts and support, we welcome you to these ministries with us.

Support for Seniors and Shut-Ins

This includes holiday cards written by Sunday School students, Christmas caroling for shut-ins, and our annual Senior BBQ for the local community.

Service to Refugees

St. John’s has participated in the resettlement of three Afghan families in partnership with Hearts & Homes for Refugees, providing both volunteer service and financial support. Local refugees are invited as guests to the church’s annual tag sale. Community members of all ages have also written Christmas cards for those in ICE detention, and the church has hosted successful campaigns for support to the people of Ukraine and Gaza through Lutheran World Relief.

Care for the Vulnerable

Congregants of all ages participate on the Midnight Run to serve the homeless in NYC, with Sunday School students preparing toiletry kits and lunches, to Youth Group members and adults sorting clothing and participating on the run. Congregants contributed nonperishable food year-round in support of the Harrison Food Pantry.

At St. John’s children are always welcome. At St. John’s the font holds a central place. At the table all are welcome and at the font we all begin our lifelong journey and adventure in faith.
