St. John’s Lutheran Church

First Communion

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
— Romans 8:28

Central to the Christian faith is the Eucharist. Since the first century the people of God have gathered to observe Jesus' command to celebrate this meal in remembrance of him. St. John's takes this imperative seriously as we gather each Sunday to break bread and drink wine to remember our Lord's life, death, and resurrection. As Lutherans we believe in the real presence of our Lord; "in, with, and under" the bread and wine, in Luther's words. In this sense, Christ is present mysteriously in this meal.

St. Anselm says that faith seeks understanding. It is paramount that our children understand the importance of the sacrament of the altar. Therefore, we have designed a special class of several weeks to discuss the meaning of the Lord's Supper and baptism so that they will understand the importance of receiving this blessed sacrament.

All children in fourth and fifth grade in Sunday School are invited to this special class.
