"Maundy" comes from the Latin word mandatum, or commandment, reflecting Jesus' words "I give you a new commandment." Maundy Thursday marks the beginning of the Paschal Triduum, and commemorates the Washing of the Feet and Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles.
