Function in Disaster. Finish in Style.
When you observe people, some of them do everything possible to not let anyone know they are having difficulties, some even taking it a step further towards trying to fulfill the demands of a Stepford wife perfection. Pretend as you may, life is never that perfect. In fact, it's oftentimes very messy and painful and difficult. The important thing to me is that one keeps on living, keeps on progressing, keeps on reaching for the goals that one wants to achieve. There are people I admire who don't turn back in the face of adversity, they don't give up when they are overwhelmed, they don't lose heart when things get dark and dreary. Rather, they face into the wind and continue to try to make things happen.I came across this quote by Katherine Graham: "Function in disaster. Finish in style." I don't know exactly why I relate to it, but I seem to take myself and my faith into situations where people live outside the lines, where pain and hurt and disappointment seem to live, and where fear and anxiety upset everything. In other words, things look like a disaster, but somehow a path is created, an answer is found, love overcomes hate, and in the cracks of life something begins to grow and flourish.Put differently, we get through the disaster and thank God that we can finish in style. Isn't that what the Good News is trying to tell us every Sunday? In the words of Saint Paul in the book of Romans: But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.MEH
