The St. John’s Sunday school program provides a nurturing and exciting learning environment for young children, ages three to twelve, where they learn about God and begin to understand their relationship with Him. The children of St. John’s Sunday school and their families are a close-knit community, contributing energy, vibrancy and enthusiasm to the St. John’s congregation.
The Sunday school offers five age-grouped classes: Pre-K/Kindergarten, first and second grades, third and fourth grades, fifth and sixth grades, and seventh and eighth grades. In addition to weekly Sunday classes held from 9:10 am to 10:15 am, the program sponsors many annual social events including Rally Day, Blessing of the Animals, Halloween Party, Fall Harvest Brunch, Christmas Pageant, Good Friday program and Easter egg hunt.
The children and their families also participates in outreach activities including the collection of non-perishable food items for the local food pantry, sponsoring the Buck-a-Chick program, which provided chickens to underprivileged families in Africa; and participation in the ELCA Good Gifts program by donating monies for farm animals to needy families.
Additionally, children have the opportunity to join the Jr. Choir for pre-k through fourth graders and a youth chime group for fifth through eighth graders.
